"It's like we say in St. Olaf, Christmas without fruitcake is like St. Sigmund's Day without the headless boy."

Whose Face is This, Anyway? is the twentieth episode of the second season of The Golden Girls and the forty-fifth episode overall. Directed by Terry Hughes and written by Winifred Hervey, it premiered on NBC-TV on February 28th, 1987.
After attending her college sorority reunion and seeing that her sorority sisters have had plastic surgery and seeing how old she looks in a video Rose made for community college class, Blanche decides to have an aggressive amount of plastic surgery herself.
Plot[]
Blanche attends a sorority reunion and is mortified to discover that all of her sorority sisters look years younger because they have all had facelifts. Blanche becomes insecure to the point that she decides to go through plastic surgery to preserve her beauty. The three other girls discuss aging and the dangers of vanity, while Rose is making a documentary, a day in the life of her roommates, for a night-college course.[1]
Sophia implies that Blanche's collage looks like Gavin MacLeod. MacLeod and Betty White starred together on The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
Many people think that the plastic surgeon's mention of NBC's Thursday night lineup is an inside joke about when The Golden Girls was on NBC in 1987, but the show aired Saturdays at 9:00 PM EST for the first six seasons. The perceived joke wouldn't even make sense nowadays since ABC, according to the Hulu streaming intro to The Golden Girls, bought the rights to the show sometime after the series finale.
Cultural references[]
The names that Blanche mentions for her sorority sisters, "Scarlet" and "Melanie", are the names of the main female characters in Gone with the Wind.
Goofs[]
Rose thinks she'd be too scared to get plastic surgery. In an earlier episode, Dorothy reveals that Rose had a nose job. And Dorothy said she had her ears pinned back in that same episode but only mentions her eyes in this episode.[2]
