The Return of Dorothy's Ex is the eleventh episode of the first season of The Golden Girls and the eleventh episode overall. Directed by Jim Drake and written by Terry Grossman and Kathy Speer, the episode premiered on NBC-TV on November 30th, 1985.
Dorothy and Stan spend the night together after he tells her that Chrissy, the young woman he left Dorothy for, left him. Dorothy sees it as an isolated incident, but Stan thinks of it as the two of them starting their relationship over.
Rose tells a story about how she befriended a man named Eddie Parker, the "Aqua Midget" at the ROTC club while Charlie was off fighting in the war. He had a diving act where he jumped off of a step ladder into a punch bowl. He had feelings for her but Rose didn't feel the same and ended it because she could never be with anyone in show business.
This episode is also known as "Stan's Return" on both the DVD release and on Hulu.
This is the first and only physical appearance of Chrissy Zbornak.
Simone Griffeth, who played Chrissy, had previously worked with Bea Arthur on the short-lived 1983 sitcom Amanda's By the Sea. According to Griffeth, she was nervous working on this episode as Arthur had never really warmed to her when working on Amanda's By the Sea. Nevertheless, the episode went off without a hitch as the two worked together fine.
The glasses that Sophia wears are Sophia Loren brand, first issued in 1976.
Continuity[]
Sophia mentions that the last time Stan had Dorothy sign papers, she ended up going to a nursing home. This implies that Stan persuaded or even tricked Dorothy into sending Sophia to Shady Pines after her stroke.
