The Artist is the thirteenth episode of the third season of The Golden Girls, and the sixty-fourth episode overall. Directed by Terry Hughes and written by Christopher Lloyd, the episode premiered on NBC-TV on December 19th, 1987.
Suave, sexy artist Lazlo chooses Blanche as his nude model for a sculpture. When Blanche sneaks a peek at Lazlo's sketches, she is indignant: the pictures resemble Rose. Dorothy soon reveals that Lazlo asked her to pose, too, and the three bicker over which of them will be immortalized in stone.
Plot[]
Sophia comes in only wearing her coat, Dorothy asks her what's wrong she reveals that a prankster at the centre got her with a joke flower, she vows revenge on the man. Blanche comes in with Laszlo a sculptor who way with words has them hot under the collar. After he leaves Blanche reveals she is going to be posing for him showing her key to his workshop.
Sophia decides to get the joker on his own game so she tests them on Dorothy, but Dorothy's attempt on Blanche goes wrong when the dribble glass gets clogged, when Laszlo comes in he reveals to Rose that he feels Blanche lacks something so he convinces Rose to secretly model as well. After Blanche discovers the sketches Rose reveals the truth, then Dorothy reveals she also modelled for Laszlo. As they all talk about what they should do they instead go to the workshop to confront him. Laszlo tells them that he has enough sketches and his chosen model will be seen in the finished statue.
The unveiling comes around, the girls wait for the moment, Sophia then pulls another joke on Dorothy pretending to drop a artwork and gets the security on board with the joke. Then the statue is seen and the girls can't tell which one of them is the one so they ask Laszlo who he used and he took all their best parts saying that they work so well as a trio.
Thinking they have a chance romantically, they ask him about if he does, but then Victor the Emcee speaks to him showing the girls that they are boyfriends and Laszlo thought they knew. The next day Sophia reveals she's giving up the jokes only for Dorothy to fall victim to a final one.[1]
This is the final episode of The Golden Girls to be released in 1987.
The background shot during the closing credits features Dorothy, Rose, and Blanche on the couch looking on at Laszlo as he compares sex and artistry.
Goofs[]
When Sophia tries to hand Dorothy the kaleidoscope, the eyepiece faces Dorothy. In the next shot, it faces Sophia. Later when the girls come into the kitchen discussing Laszlo, Sophia holds the kaleidoscope at about a 45-degree angle in one shot and almost straight up and down in the next.
When Blanche sits down at the kitchen table, you can hear the sound of the whoopee cushion before she actually sits on it.
