Settling is the first episode of the first season of Empty Nest and the twenty-third episode overall. Directed by Steve Zuckerman and written by Susan Beavers, it premiered on NBC-TV on September 30th, 1989.
Carol is frustrated with her boyfriend's trouble with intimacy, but finds it hard to talk to him about it -- especially after he proposes to her. In honor of her sixth year working for the center, Harry tries to give Laverne a raise, but she keeps on dragging her feet.
Starting with this episode, a kitchen island is added to the Weston's kitchen. Though it was absent during Season 1, the island was part of the kitchen when the set was used for the original Empty Nest pilot, which starred Paul Dooley and Rita Moreno as George and Rene Corliss.[2]
