Ro$e Love$ Mile$ is the tenth episode of the seventh season of The Golden Girls and the one-hundred and sixty-fifth episode overall. Directed by Lex Passaris and written by Don Seigel, Jerry Perzigian, Richard Vaczy, and Tracy Gamble, it premiered on NBC-TV on November 16th, 1991.
Tired of Miles's penny-pinching ways, Rose decides to take Blanche's advice and goes out with her and some big spenders. While Dorothy is away, she leaves Blanche in charge of an especially-rebellious Sophia. Blanche panics when she finds that Sophia has traveled to Sicily to square things with Guido, the man she stood up at the altar decades earlier.
Plot[]
Dorothy puts Blanche in charge of Sophia while she's away on a cruise. As soon as Dorothy leaves, Sophia threatens Blanche that she's not 'going to be a cake walk' while Dorothy is gone. Meanwhile, Rose and Miles are returning home from a cheap meal and discuss all the ways Miles penny-pinched their lunch. She complains to Blanche about it.
Sophia is going through Dorothy's stuff and finds some keepsakes, one of which was a bucket listh Sophia had created in 1920. One of the items on the list was making amends to Guido, a man she had left at the alter while she was still in Sicily. Blanche encourages her to make amends through a letter.
Blanche suggests Rose 'cheats' on Miles by going out to dinner with Blanche and her rich friends from Texas. While at dinner, Miles shows up and is upset to see Rose with Blanche and her friends. Rose apologizes to Miles but he's still upset and leaves the restaurant.
The next morning at breakfast, Rose lets Blanche know that Sophia has left to go to Sicily to make amends with Guido. Blanche enlists Sophia's brother Angelo to see if he can help her locate Sophia in Sicily. While in Sicily, Sophia finds Guido who immediately tells her he's not upset.
Back in Miami, Miles takes Rose out to the same restaurant as the rich Texans. At dinner, Miles confides in Rose that his doctor told him he's going to live to be very old and it scared him that he won't have enough money in his retirement. Rose and Miles are excited to discover they've reached a new level of their relationship - total and complete honesty. Dorothy arrives home from her cruise and Sophia walks in the door just in time to hide her trip to Sicily from Dorothy.[1]
During the dinner date between Rose and Miles, Rose's purse strap is on and off and back on her shoulder in between scenes.
Sophia's wish list says that she wanted to lose two-hundred pounds, which she says she did. But in "Rites of Spring", she was trying to gain weight because she had lost 1 pound. She said that she'd been the same weight her entire life and was worried that she has lost weight.[2]
