"What? I've had four children, I never had a Mercedes. Dorothy, I'll give you anything. One of my sons! Which one do you want, Biff, Doug or Skippy? No, don't choose Skippy! Skippy has asthma!"
Matthew "Skippy" Devereaux is the youngest son of Blanche Devereaux and George Devereaux. It has been deduced that Matthew is probably also "Skippy", since Blanche said "I have had four kids, I have never had a Mercedes. Which one do you want? Biff, Doug, Skippy?..." It is also evident that Skippy has asthma. The part of Matthew is played by comedian/actor Bill Engvall in the episode of The Golden Palace titled "Say Goodbye, Rose".
Biography[]
Matthew "Skippy" Devereaux was born to George and Blanche Devereaux in 1958. He is the younger brother of Janet Devereaux, Rebecca Devereaux, Douglas "Doug" Devereaux and Biff Devereaux. He was nicknamed "Skippy" by his mother and suffered from asthma throughout his life. While his other siblings resented their mother for having left their care and raising to nannies and housekeepers, Matthew seems comperatively close to Blanche.
Matthew struggled at school and George, his father, had to work very hard to get him through highschool and college and secure a future for him by making him a stockbroker. The job didn't suit Matthew very well as he was a jokester, social, funny, outgoing and like his father in every way in both appearance and personality.
Aged 35 he finally quit his job as a stockbroker and started a career as a stand-up comedian. It took him a while to convince his mother that it was a good idea, but remembering her late husband's personality, she finally approved.
Trivia[]
