A farmer who owned a cow named Maybelle and claimed he was related to famed American writer Erskine Caldwell. After an elk tried to mate with Maybelle, Abner shot it with a tranquilizer and had it moved to Yellowstone.
An elk that became attracted to Abner Caldwell's cow Maybelle. The elk broke down a fence, knocked over a tree, and broke into the barn trying to get to Maybelle. Eventually, Abner Caldwell shot it with a tranquilizer and had it moved to Yellowstone.
