This is a full list of Dorothy Zbornak's relationships. For a list of her romances, see Dorothy Zbornak/Romances.
Main[]
Sophia Petrillo[]
Dorothy is Sophia's firstborn daughter, born soon after she and her husband immigrated to America.
Sophia has a tendency to "borrow" money from Dorothy, with or without Dorothy's permission or awareness.
Rose Nylund[]
One of the show's running gags stems from Rose saying something particularly dim-witted and Dorothy whacking her over the head with some light reading material, such as a newspaper or a magazine.
Despite their differences and disputes, Dorothy often turned to Rose in times of emotional need. When Dorothy began suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome, she took Rose to New York with her to see Dr. Budd, citing Rose's sensitivity towards others and her ability to comfort people. True to her word, Rose was able to comfort Dorothy as she broke down in the hotel room.[1]
Off-set, Betty White and Bea Arthur didn't get along very well, which helped to fuel the semi-hostile relationship between their characters.
Blanche Devereaux[]
Blanche's relationship with Dorothy is mixed with envy and condemnation on both parts. Dorothy envies and condemns Blanche's comfort and confidence in her sexuality, while Blanche envies Dorothy's intelligence and singing talents, among other things. And yet, both she and Dorothy at times isolate themselves from Rose, ganging up on her when the latter says anything particularly foolish, and taking turns hitting her on the head with a newspaper or magazine. Their relationship is also symbiotic: in one of the last episodes in the series, Dorothy admits that Blanche has helped her be comfortable with her own sexuality, while Dorothy herself has always served as Blanche's other voice of reason.

Mother Zbornak[]
Every Sunday, Stan and Dorothy would have dinner at Yolanda's house, which Dorothy dreaded enough that she compared it to the stress she suffered when Stan had gallbladder surgery.[4] When Dorothy and the girls were suffering from nightmares after renting Psycho, she remarked on how she declined to see it with Stan instead on an Sunday, she remarks that Yolanda was less scary than Norman Bates and that Bates dressed better as well.[5]
For the majority of Dorothy's marriage to Stan, Dorothy believed that Yolanda hated her as she would treat her very poorly whenever they met up. However, Dorothy would later learn that Yolanda was glad that Dorothy married Stan, because she was tough on him even though she loved him. She even gave Dorothy twice as much money as she needed, under the condition that she never told Stan that Yolanda provided the money. Dorothy looked at Yolanda in a different light afterwards.[6]
