Did You Ever See a Dream Dying? is the twenty-third episode of the second season of Empty Nest and the forty-fifth episode overall. Directed by Steve Zuckerman and written by Pat Dougherty, it premiered on NBC-TV on April 14th, 1990.
Harry helps Laverne's husband Nick buy a bar, which Laverne views as a recipe for disaster. A little lost puppy wanders into the Westons' hearts, but all of the messes it makes are blamed on the innocent Dreyfuss.
The episode's title is a reference to the song "Did You Ever See A Dream Walking?", written by Harry Revel and Matt Gordon and first introduced in the 1933 film Sitting Pretty.
Nick says the tagline of the 1982 sitcom Cheers, "where everybody knows your name", and then the Cheers jingle is heard.
