Rose, Blanche and Sophia reminisce about previous bad dates while Dorothy is out late with a prominent doctor.
Plot[]
Dorothy gets ready to go on a date with the infamous Dr. Cagan, to the other girls dismay. This leaves the other girls to reminisce about previous dates they've been on. First, Rose flashes back to a horrible date she had with a jerk several years back. This leads Blanche to flash back to a bad double date she and Rose had on New Year's Eve a couple years ago. Rose had to comfort a widower who is trying to take advantage of her, while Blanche’s date turns out to be a former priest and to her enjoyment, a virgin. Rose accidentally convinces Blanche’s date to not have sex with Blanche after she kicks her date out for over-stepping. Sophia tells the story of the time Dorothy revealed to her that she was pregnant about 40 years before. Finally, Dorothy comes back from her date that went very well.[1]
This is the second time in the series that Rose and Blanche date brothers, with Rose dating a widow named Arnie. The first was in "Rose the Prude."
Production[]
In Golden Girls Forever, Marc Cherry said that this episode became a wraparound due to multiple factors. Bea Arthur was going through a medical issue that forced her off the show for a month and required an operation, so her scenes for the beginning and end of the episode were pretaped. Estelle Getty had to be made up for present and flashback scenes, so her scenes were also pretaped. Finally, Betty White was sick on the night of the episode taping, and you can hear some soreness in her voice.[2]
Goofs[]
When Blanche talks to Bob on the couch, she puts her arm behind his shoulders. It then cuts to a close-up of his head and shoulders and her arm is not there. Later, in another close-up of his face, her hand is waving lazily in the upper right corner. It then cuts to Blanche and this same hand is touching her forehead.
