Chrissy Zbornak (maiden name unknown) is a major one-off character in the 1985 NBC sitcom The Golden Girls. She is the second ex-wife of Stanley Zbornak, having met him on a trip to Hawaii and had a one-night stand with him that led him to leave his wife Dorothy for her. Chrissy later divorced Stan for a younger man, but came to Miami to try and win him back, only to be turned down by Stan once again.
Chrissy was mentioned numerous times on the show, and made her only onscreen appearance in the Season 1 episode "The Return of Dorothy's Ex". She was portrayed by Simone Griffeth.
Personality and Traits[]
Chrissy appears to be sweet and bubbly, if not a bit dimwitted. She also showed no ill will or hostility towards Dorothy, despite her being Stanely's ex-wife. She also appears to be a serial cheater, as she not only helped Stanley Zbornak cheat on his wife, but cheated on him later into their marriage. However, it is worth noting that unlike Stan, Chrissy felt remorse for what she'd done and broke it off with her new boyfriend, even flying from Hawaii to Florida to try to reconcile with Stanley.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Chrissy was born some twenty years before the series began. She got a job as a flight attendant.
Marriage[]
On Chrissy's first flight to Hawaii in 1983, she met the then-married Stanley Zbornak. Chrissy was instructed to give the passengers a flower lei on arrival, but she allegedly "got confused" and had sex with Stan instead. The one-night stand led to Stan divorcing his wife Dorothy Zbornak from Hawaii, and he married Chrissy after his divorce was finalized.[1]
For the next two years, Chrissy lived with Stanley in Maui, Hawaii,[1] where they owned a Hobie Cat sailboat, a hot tub, and a solar-heated water bed. They also routinely attended luaus and went to the beach. In 1985, Chrissy had an undisclosed accident with a tanning machine and was unable to attend the wedding of her stepdaughter, Kate.[2]
Divorce[]
Later that year, Chrissy had an affair with a younger man named Jean-Paul, eventually divorcing Stanley to be with him. Heartbroken, Stanley left the Bahamas and went back to Florida to reconcile with Dorothy. Chrissy eventually realized that she missed Stanley and wanted him back, so she broke it off with Jean-Paul and flew to Miami, Florida to reconcile with Stanley.
She found where he was staying and walked in on him attempting to reconcile with Dorothy, and professed her love for him. Dorothy was touched by the lengths Chrissy went to to get Stanley back and offered to leave so the couple could have their moment. However, Stanley insisted that their relationship had no substance and turned her down, intending to go back to his safe life with Dorothy. The angered Chrissy threw a drink in Stanley's face and stormed out of the hotel.
After Dorothy revealed that she had no intentions of taking Stanley back, he chased after Chrissy, but she refused to take him back.[3]
Relationships[]
Stanley Zbornak[]
Chrissy sometimes referred to him as "stick man" and "big Stan". While Chrissy seemed genuinely in love with him, Stanley was only attracted to her youthful beauty, carrying around pictures of her in swimsuit attire to show off and saying the only good thing about their relationship was the "terrific" sex. After Chrissy divorced him, an emotional Stanley realized just how superficial their relationship really was and tried to reconcile with Dorothy. When Chrissy came to his hotel to get him back, Stanley turned her down, citing his recent revelation as the reason for it. However, he tried to chase after Chrissy after learning that Dorothy had no intention of taking him back.
Jean-Paul[]
Chrissy's ex-boyfriend for whom she divorced Stanley for. After being with him for a while, Chrissy realized she missed Stanley and broke it off with Jean-Paul to try reconciling with Stanley.
Dorothy Zbornak[]
Dorothy was venomous towards Chrissy in private, referring to her condescendingly as "the little woman" and "the bimbo" and asking if a pig with an apple in its mouth was Chrissy.
Career[]
Chrissy works as a flight attendant.

Casting and Development[]
Simone Griffeth was cast as Chrissy. Griffeth had previously worked with Bea Arthur on the short-lived 1983 sitcom Amanda's By the Sea.
In an interview with Jim Colluci, author of Golden Girls Forever, Griffeth noted that Chrissy was very much a stereotype of flight attendants.[4]
