A Flaw Is Born is the first episode of the third season of Empty Nest and the forty-seventh episode overall. Directed by Steve Zuckerman and written by Susan Beavers, it premiered on NBC-TV on September 22nd, 1990. It is the Season 3 premiere.
Harry is dating a world-famous brain surgeon and he is a little apprehensive about dating someone so successful. Carol and Barbara plot revenge on an inconsiderate man who met Carol on a plane and promised to phone but never did.
Starting with this episode, Kristy McNichol and Dinah Manoff begin wearing new hairstyles. McNichol cuts her hair short while Manoff ditches her permed hair. Both actresses sport these hairstyles for the remainder of the series.
